Suck it, California! Colorado has officially surpassed California to claim the nation’s leading market share for new electric vehicles. According to a recent report from the Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management, electric vehicles accounted for 25.3% of new vehicle sales in Colorado during the third quarter. California ranked second, with electric vehicles accounting for 24.3%. Governor Jared Polis boasted in a statement, “Our commitment to making electric vehicles an affordable and reliable option for Coloradans is paying off.”
Since Colorado voters approved Proposition 125 in 2022, which allows grocery and convenience stores to sell wine in addition to beer, dozens of independent liquor stores have closed. Though it was marketed as a convenience for consumers, it has ultimately increased competition and “crushed many family-owned liquor stores in the Denver community.” Our Jonathan Peter’s reported on this when the measure went into effect in March 2023. Conservative estimates suggest that 400 more liquor stores will be forced to close by 2026.
On a more festive note, the 50th annual 9NEWS Parade of Lights is this Saturday, December 7. The free event will include 40 illuminated floats, helium-filled character balloons, marching bands, equestrian units, cultural entries and a special appearance by Santa Claus. It begins at 6 p.m. in front of the spectacular Denver City and County Building before traveling through downtown Denver on a two-mile parade route. For those who can’t make it in person, 9NEWS is streaming the spectacle on its cable channel, streaming app, mobile app and website.
