If you wonder whether your investment in Bucket List Community News pays off, consider the amazing night we had on Saturday. Bucket List won 19 honors at the Colorado Press Association awards, including 11 first-place prizes for our journalism, KGNU radio show, newsletter, and website. We also won an excellence award for our use of mixed media, and our publisher, Vicky Collins, received the overall award for innovation.

We are so proud of this accomplishment and grateful to those of you who have been along for the journey as we’ve worked to inform, engage, and connect our Denver-area neighbors. Your generosity has helped us continue telling stories that matter to communities across metro Denver and mentor the next generation of journalists.

Strong local journalism helps people understand what is happening in their neighborhoods, gives a voice to people and stories that might otherwise be overlooked, and makes sure everyone feels seen, heard, and respected. It is not an exaggeration to say that we cannot continue doing this work without community support.

At Bucket List Community News, we are working to strengthen connections through journalism that is accessible, solution-oriented, and rooted in our neighborhoods. We also offer emerging journalists the opportunity to gain hands-on experience reporting stories that matter and building skills that lead directly to jobs.

Just this past week, Bucket List’s Dylan Barbee got a full-time reporting job at a local news publication in Effingham, Illinois, and Mimi Herrick became the weekday news anchor at WEEK TV in Peoria, Illinois. To date, our journalists have also won 50 awards in local and regional competitions.

Because you have already invested in this work, we hope you will consider increasing your support of Bucket List Community News. Increasing your contribution or becoming a recurring monthly contributor helps us expand our reporting, strengthen our community, support the next generation of journalists, and provide free local news that people can access and trust.

We have extended our Back to School fundraiser through Friday, Sept. 4. Every contribution makes a difference. If you increase your investment during our Back to School campaign, the Lenfest Institute will match contributions up to $5,000. Thank you for helping us innovate and ensure a stronger future for community journalism.

Warmest Regards,
Vicky Collins
