Hello! My name is Iris Serrano and I am the editorial coordinator for Bucket List Community News. As a recent graduate of CU Boulder, I’m so grateful to Bucket List Community News for allowing me to continue practicing my skills as I transition to graduate school. Having been born and raised in Colorado, it’s especially meaningful to report on the communities that shaped me and be part of something that is having so much impact on our community.
It’s time for our Back-to-School Fundraiser and it’s not just about supporting us as a newsroom. It’s about investing in the future of trustworthy local journalism. Your contributions help us mentor students from CU Boulder, MSU Denver, the University of Denver, other universities and the Denver Public Schools so we can serve the community with free trustworthy news and gain real reporting experience. All contributions up to $5000 are matched by The Lenfest Institute, so contribute now and double your impact today!
At Bucket List Community News, we believe that local journalism is one of the best ways to create connection. Every week our team of journalists is across the Denver metro, building community by sharing the stories that explain the issues that impact our neighborhoods and celebrating the people making a difference. Whether reporting on gentrification, new policies, a local business or events, our goal is to make sure people see themselves and the things they care about reflected in the news.
Much of our work is made possible by the talented student journalists and journalism entrepreneurs who are part of our newsroom. As they head back to school this month, we’re reminded how learning doesn’t just happen in a classroom. It also happens as we cover city council meetings, attend festivals, talk with Colorado residents and work to run a publication. These real-world experiences are how the next generation of journalists learn what matters most to our communities.
Bucket List Community News is free for everyone. There are no paywalls, ad pop-ups that slow down your browser, or subscription fees that stand in the way between our neighbors and the stories they care about the most. We believe everyone deserves access to our news regardless of their ability to pay. However, this is only possible because of generous readers like you!
Whether you make a one-time contribution or decide to be a recurring supporter, you’re helping us mentor the next generation of journalists while keeping local news free and accessible. Beyond investing in journalism, your support will also help build a stronger community and meaningful connections within the Denver metro area. We are partners in making our community a more informed place to live.
Our Back to School fundraiser runs through August 31 and your contributions are matched up to $5000 by the Lenfest Institute. Thanks for believing in local journalism and the storytellers who are shaping its future. Please make a contribution today. Every donation helps us keep doing this work for our neighbors. Thanks for investing in Bucket List Community News and local journalism.
