Hello Bucket Listers!
I just returned from the Knight Media Forum in Miami and one thing I heard loud and clear from Knight Foundation President Maribel Wadsworth Perez during the opening session is that “Journalism is at an inflection point and there is no room for bystanders.” It’s essential: let’s fight for local news. She also reminded us, “The power to create change is LOCAL!”

At Bucket List Community News we provide free, trustworthy community journalism that serves the Denver area. We are your neighbors and are building community by sharing our stories. We are doing this while mentoring the next generation of journalists and journalism entrepreneurs from CU Boulder, MSU Denver and DU through internships and apprenticeships. College journalists are becoming community journalists!

But here’s the thing, Bucket Listers! If we are going to be able to keep this up, we need more support. Not just from you, our loyal readers, but through business sponsorships, non-profits and community foundations, and our twice a year fundraising campaigns when you can choose to make a one time, or preferably, a recurring monthly contribution.
This coming spring we have some things we want you to know about. First, starting this Friday and continuing until March 14 we are doing a survey to help us better serve you. Usually we don’t get many responses. We need you to respond this time! Take 10 minutes and tell us what you would like to see from us.
We are also launching a business directory that not only shares excellent products and services in the Denver metro but also recognizes sponsors who value local journalism for our community and democracy. You can see our reasonable prices in our media kit. This is an opportunity for us to support small businesses and for them to support us back. If you want your business featured, let us know and we’ll be in touch right away.

Finally, instead of our Christmas in July fundraiser, we are going to have a Spring Fundraising Fling in May. Those who have contributed to us can see your name on our supporters page. But we need a lot more of our neighbors helping to make Bucket List Community News sustainable. Our journalism is free, without paywalls, paid memberships, paid subscriptions and ad clutter. But without your contributions, we cannot keep this up.
We’re also planning to hold an event in May and we want your suggestions! Would you like a house or block party? Community storytelling? A panel or meet and greet? A zoom coffee or happy hour? What would make you want to connect with new neighbors and support community journalism? Let’s collaborate and do something impactful and invite all our friends. Reach out with your ideas to vicky@teletrendstv.com.

Publications like Bucket List are fighting to survive during challenging times. At the Knight Media Forum we were asked if we would fight for this. Everyone in the room said yes. Our team at Bucket List is fighting to keep this going and we need everyone on board to support trustworthy, LOCAL news too! It matters now more than ever.
If you like what we do, ask your neighbors to subscribe. If you are a business, sponsor us. If you visit our website, socials, get our newsletters and listen to our podcast, please contribute. We’re doing this together and we can’t keep it up without all of you.

With deep gratitude,
Vicky Collins
