Hey neighbors! Have you noticed a difference in Bucket List lately?  We have a new name and a new look. We are now Bucket List Community News. With that complete, we have launched our Spring Fling Fundraiser. Our goal is to raise $10,000 but we need your help. Every penny up to $5000 is matched by our friends Kathy Neustadt and John and Mark Warren of the investment firm, William Blair. Please give generously so we can continue to serve you with neighborly stories and trusted voices that connect metro Denver.

April 9 is Local News Day and we have lots to celebrate. A number of independent local news publications including Bucket List are holding a free open house/fundraiser at the historic Denver Press Club from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and we’d love for you to join us. Trustworthy local news is essential if you want an informed and engaged community and April 9 is a national day of action to bring attention to the work we all do. Here are five other reasons to join us in this week’s Bucket Listicle:

1.)

We’re reading a proclamation from Governor Jared Polis who has declared April 9 Local News Day in Colorado. We are so grateful that he recognizes that “participation in Local News Day provides an opportunity for residents, institutions and local governments to celebrate the value of local news and information through community events, local recognitions and visible acts of support.”

2.)

We want you to join us to celebrate the independent news publishers in the Denver area. Nine organizations will be there for fundraising and fellowship. Bucket List Community News will have free swag: get updated stickers and refrigerator magnets with our new logo. You’ll also meet friends from the Aurora Sentinel, Denver Urban Spectrum, Front Porch Northeast, Greater Park Hill News, Colorado Ethnic Media Exchange, Front Range Focus, Denver Voice and KGNU Radio. Get to know us and let us know how we can best serve you.

3.)

If you’ve never been inside the Denver Press Club, this is your chance. It is over 100 years old and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It has a very cool bar and comfortable spaces for conversation, but the best part is all the history on the walls. Decades of headlines, photos of presidents and a wall of fame full of caricatures of well-known press people. You might even see a ghost. Yes, things go bump in the night. Ask Jim behind the bar.

4.)

Chris and his team at Mezcla Maggie will be catering. Thanks to generous contributions from Colorado Media Project and the Colorado Press Association there should be lots more than chips and salsa. We need a head count for food so please RSVP here. Did we mention there’s a great bar?  And there are three stories of places to sit down and visit with your neighbors and favorite journalists.

5.)

Finally, we can’t do this work without you, so support your favorite local newsroom with a contribution. If you can’t make it to the Denver Press Club, remember Bucket List is fundraising through the month of April so if you appreciate what we are doing, please make a contribution here so our team can continue to do this very important work. We’re excited to meet you at the Denver Press Club on 4/9 from 5 to 8 p.m.
