Happy Thanksgiving Bucket Listers. We are so grateful for your support of community journalism and Bucket List Community News. You are helping us serve the community with trustworthy local news, and mentor the next generation of journalists and journalism entrepreneurs. We are partners in making our community more informed and inspired.
It’s one week out from the kickoff of our #newsconeeds year-end fundraising campaign and our business development manager, Logan Kurtz, wondered aloud:
What if everyone on this mailing list, all 2000 of you, contributed $5? I’ll tell you what will happen! We would unlock our $10,000 match from Colorado Media Project, Kathy Neustadt, Tom Walsh and Jerry Bell.
So, I thought I’d break down what we can do with your contributions.
$5 pays for a parking pass when we visit our university partners
$20 pays for one hour of work for our management team
$30 pays for a ticket if you forget to scan to park at MSU
$50 pays for the time it takes to work on our newsletter
$100 pays for 5 hours of work on our social media
$200 pays for one story by our journalism apprentices
$250 covers the cost to participate in some events
$500 covers the cost for our team to attend the CPA conference and win awards
$750 pays for one month of our CMS/Newspack to give you the best experience
$1500 provides one Darrell Ewalt Scholarship for BIPOC journalists
Everything you contribute helps us thoughtfully make decisions to keep Bucket List going and mentor the next generation of journalists (except maybe the parking ticket.)
We kick off our #newsCOneeds year-end fundraiser on 12/3 and it goes through 12/31. This year it’s on the Colorado Gives portal. We have set an ambitious goal to raise $12,500. But we can’t do it without you. You can make a one-time contribution or if you want to help us be sustainable you can make a monthly recurring contribution.
Starting 12/3, everything you contribute up to $1000 will be matched thanks to a $5000 matching grant from Colorado Media Project. All large contributions are tax deductible thanks to our fiscal sponsor, Colorado News Collaborative.
When we get over $5000, your contributions will be doubled again, thanks to matching grants from Kathy Neustadt, Tom Walsh and Jerry Bell. But we need your help to unlock the matches and help us meet our fundraising goal.
