We are just a week from the conclusion of our Back to School fundraising campaign, and to start this message, I want to give a shout out to Alejandra Canstaneda. She is fiercely committed to safer streets for pedestrians and bicyclists in Denver. She has paid attention to our reporting on street safety (or lack of it) and has shared with us how she appreciates the work we do. Then she did this. She made a fundraising appeal on our behalf.
I decided to start giving monthly to the Bucket List Community News as part of the Back-To-School Fundraiser. I believe in accountability journalism, and I’ve been impressed with their coverage of land-use and safe-streets issues at the hyper-local level. They’re invested in the next generation of journalists—mentoring college students through internships, then allowing them to advance into paid apprenticeships. I hope you’ll consider doing the same.
She gave $5 a month. $60 a year. And you know what happened? Someone else in the community did the same thing and now we have two more recurring monthly contributors. Not members. Lots of news organizations have membership programs. Maybe we should too (that’s what everyone else does) but membership implies that you belong to us, and we believe in partnership. We believe in doing something big together.
That said, we need a lot more people like Alejandra for Bucket List to be able to continue sharing free hyperlocal neighborly news with you and mentoring the next generation of journalists and journalism entrepreneurs. The need is urgent especially when I open my email and already see two new applicants from CU Boulder, MSU Denver and DU. So far, we have nine applicants for spring, and our fall term has just started.
Just like Alejandra is committed to safe streets, Bucket List is committed to making sure our community is informed, and our aspiring journalists build the skills they need to serve you with trustworthy solution-oriented news. We can’t do it without you. As we move into the last week of our Back to School fundraising campaign, please partner with us to support our team and ensure the Denver metro area is informed and inspired.
With just $5 a month or $60 a year you can join us as a partner in this mission. Please contribute today then reach out to your network on Facebook, Instagram or Tik Tok and suggest they do the same just like Alejandra did. Share the value of our work, how we make a difference in the community and how we share stories that matter to you so you can be more engaged in your neighborhood. Can we count on you to contribute today?
Thank you for being our partners. Thank you for helping our team continue to cover safety, growth, politics, arts and culture, events, and issues that matter. Our goal is to build community by sharing our stories and to keep this free so everyone in the Denver metro feels seen and heard. Please partner with us so we can keep up this work. Thank you for supporting Bucket List and for believing in the impact of community journalism.

Warmest Regards,
