Colorado Amendment 82
Colorado Amendment 82 election results.

Overview:

Colorado Amendment 82 on the 2026 Colorado ballot seeks to enshrine a constitutional right to buy and sell natural gas.

Colorado Amendment 82 seeks to ensure the right to natural gas usage for cooking and heating. This amendment would grant consumers the right to purchase natural gas and distributors the right to sell it. Currently laws such as Boulder’s Energy Conservation Code require almost all new buildings to be electrically powered.

This amendment is backed by the GOP and Advance Colorado. Advance Colorado describes itself as an “action-based organization focused on reversing radical policies that are harming the state and restoring common sense values and principles in Colorado,” per their website. They argue the right to use natural gas should be protected.

The Colorado Democratic Party openly opposes this. According to the environmental group, Conservation Colorado, the amendment is attempting to “use our state constitution to stop people and communities from holding the natural gas industry accountable.”
