As Bucket List Community News moves into our Christmas in July fundraising campaign we want to thank you for your support of us and community journalism and share our strides to bring free hyperlocal neighborly news to the Denver area and mentor the next generation of journalists. We have worked very hard these last few years to earn your trust and innovate community journalism so that all people are seen, and all voices are heard. We are so grateful for your partnership along the way.

This is a time of growth, momentum and change at Bucket List Community News. First the changes. We have a new website! Thanks to a generous grant from LION Publishers and the creative muscle from the folks at Newspack, we’ve made it much easier for you to engage with us and for us to understand what you want from local news. This will help us make informed decisions on how to best serve you. You can check it out here.

It’s also time to say goodbye to some of our team and welcome others into their roles. Madison Lauterbach has been our editor for the past two years. She and her husband have a bucket list dream of starting a bar in Denver and though it will be very hard to lose her, we all need to pursue our passions. I could not have done this work without Madison. She has been an amazing partner. We also wish the best to London Lyle, who has been our engagement manager, as she takes on the role of Denver City Council reporter at Colorado Community Media. Bucket List has mentored about 50 aspiring journalists from CU Boulder, MSU Denver and DU and we are so proud of how far she has come on our team. Congratulations, London!

With change comes opportunity and we want to welcome Eliza Homorodi as our new engagement manager. She is a junior in the Leeds Business School at CU and is proving to be a social media whiz. Brandon Farler has also joined us. He is a CU graduate who is working with our business development manager, Logan Kurtz, to grow our audience and revenue. These are young people in big jobs, but that’s how Bucket List rolls. Through our apprenticeship approach, we are an incubator for the next generation of journalists and entrepreneurs.

We have always believed that community journalism should be community-inspired and supported. We are asking for your support again. Our goal is to raise $5,000 in July. The first $2,000 will be matched by our friends, Ginny Jordan, and John and Mark Warren of William Blair.

It is easy to contribute here or on our website during our Christmas in July campaing. You can make a one-time, annual, or monthly recurring contribution which goes a long way toward helping with our sustainability. Any amount is appreciated and for larger tax deductible contributions folks can go through our fiscal sponsor, Local Media Foundation.  Please give generously and become our partner in innovating community journalism. We are building community by sharing our stories and we can’t do this work without your support. Merry Christmas in July!!
