Hey Bucket Listers, what a year it has been! During these uncertain times, when I wonder if Bucket List Community News is making a difference with our community journalism, I only need to look back at my calendar.

November 5 was a particularly memorable day because our team collaborated with MSU’s Met Media to provide live election night coverage. We even received a $1500 grant from the Rose Community Foundation to support our efforts. Now that the season of giving has arrived, we are counting on your continued support to have even greater impact.

Looking back on 2024, I’m so proud of how Bucket List served the community in partnership with you. Because of your generosity our team of aspiring journalists and journalism entrepreneurs is doing important work and Bucket List is becoming sustainable. Here’s what we accomplished together during 2024.

  • We’re on track to produce 250 original stories this year.
  • We’ve mentored over 60 students to date.
  • We won 14 awards at the Colorado Press Association convention.
  • We’ve awarded two $1500 Darrell Ewalt scholarships this year to BIPOC journalists.
  • We’re reporting in both English and Spanish.
  • We’re producing a monthly podcast.
  • We brought on a new editor: Toni Tresca.
  • We have launched a new Top 5 Guide to the Best Places in Denver, and small businesses are sponsoring it.
  • We collaborated with the statewide Voter Voices initiative, Met Media, Associated Press and Student News Live to bring you campaign and live election night coverage.
  • We met you at 17 community events.
  • And so much more!

Since we started Bucket List, we always planned to do this in partnership with the community.  We share free, hyperlocal neighborly news with you, and we ask you to support us if you appreciate the work we’re doing.  There have never been paywalls, paid subscriptions, paid memberships or advertising clutter and we want to keep it this way.

For Bucket List Community News to keep bringing you trustworthy local news, and continue mentoring the next generation of journalists and journalism entrepreneurs through internships and apprenticeships, we are going to need more community support.  Because of this, we are setting a high bar for our year-end fundraising drive.  Our goal is to raise $12,500 and unlock $10,000 in matching grants. Now all we need is you!

Our campaign begins on 12/3 and runs through 12/31.  This year we are fundraising on the Colorado Gives portal.  I know you’re tempted to give right this minute but wait until December 3 so your gifts will be matched.  Thanks for supporting community journalism and partnering with us to have more impact than ever. We are so grateful for you!
