Hello, Bucket Listers! We hope you had a wonderful, relaxing holiday spent with those you love. I’m writing this from Florida, where I’m spending time with my family, and our publisher, Vicky Collins, is in the Cayman Islands spending time with hers. Our young journalists are all over the place taking time off, so we’ll keep this brief. We have so much to be thankful for this holiday season, including the dozens of people who have helped our #newsCOneeds fundraising campaign reach $13,684. Please contribute today to support this critical work and help us reach our $15,000 goal before the fundraiser ends on December 31.

As part of our ongoing collaboration with CU Boulder’s News Corps, we are proud to publish student journalists Breah Conradson, Kenzie Cole, and Lacey Daniell’s capstone on the Coloradans shaping the future of women’s sports. The profile features exclusive interviews with athletic trainer Lauren Askevold, sports reporter Romi Bean, founder of Sports Girls Club Delaney Galbraith and more. Read the article to hear these women’s sports leaders’ perspectives on what is changing and what still needs to change.

For many cultures, tamales are an important holiday tradition. Because making the treat is a labor-intensive process, many people rely on businesses throughout the metro to provide holiday tamales, such as Tamales by La Casita, which begins preparing for the season in October. We reached into our vault for this story by Daianee Galindo from last December.

London Lyle is now a successful freelance reporter for multiple outlets. Photo provided by London Lyle.

Back in 2017, London Lyle took on an unusual job: responding to letters from children to Santa Claus. Though she no longer does it due to her hectic schedule working at the Longmont Times Call, she wrote for us about her experience and what she learned from taking the time to respond to children’s messages to Santa. We originally published this column in 2022, but the lessons learned remain relevant, so we republished it this holiday season.
