As our team returns to their universities for the fall semester, we have launched our Back to School Fundraiser to support the next generation of journalists and the work Bucket List Community News does to inform, engage and connect the Denver Metro. We could not be more proud of our team and you for making this work possible. Here are some reasons why Bucket List needs your investment today.
Over 300,000 of you come to Bucket List Community news in a year across our platforms. We produce over 250 stories annually for our website, send out more than 150 newsletters, produce a dozen radio shows on KGNU, and we have mentored well over 100 university and high school students from five colleges and the Denver Public Schools.
Because of your investment they serve the community with free, hyperlocal neighborly news. They become the journalists and journalism entrepreneurs of the future, and you are served with trustworthy, solution-oriented news that has impact.
Our team of emerging journalists come to us as interns and by the time they head on to great jobs, they are award winners. We consistently win prizes in both the regional Society of Professional Journalism competition and the Colorado Press Association contest.
In fact, over the last couple of years our reporting team has won about 50 awards and that means you are get excellent journalism. In addition, they earn money for their work and because of you we are able to pay them fairly and they feel valued. That’s an investment in the future of journalism!
Bucket List Community News collaborates with community organizations, so we have our ear to the ground in our neighborhoods and hear the stories that matter to you. We are accessible and welcome your ideas. We make sure everyone is seen, heard and feels represented in our journalism. We also meet you in person at events where you consistently tell us Bucket List shares news you can’t get anywhere else.
This is an uphill battle, but we’re committed to this work. We are accomplishing so much to make our Denver metro more informed, engaged and connected.
