Good morning, Bucket Listers! Today marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, a celebration that recognizes the cultures, histories and contributions of Latinos and Hispanics in the United States. Throughout the month, we recognize communities with roots in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and South America.
It’s a month full of events with delicious food, fun activities and music that’ll have you dancing all night long! We’ve collected the top five events and activities that you should check out this month to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
1.) Denver Botanic Gardens
As part of the Denver Botanic Gardens’ “Yo soy” series, a lineup of events featuring work and activities that celebrate the Latino identity. This month, they’ll be featuring an art exhibit called La Loteria Botanica where 54 loteria cards will be displayed, highlighting the relationships between people and plants of the Southwest.
They will also have a market featuring small businesses, local artisans and other hands-on activities. The market is open from now until Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entrance to both the exhibit and the market is included with general admission.
2.) Anythink Libraries
Take a trip to the Anythink Brighton on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 1 to 3 p.m., for a Hispanic Heritage Month block party. You’ll want to get there early because this fun and free event will have food, live music and community resources for attendees.
Can’t make it to Brighton? No problem! You can still enjoy live music from the Colorado Youth Mariachi at Anythink Perl Mack in Denver on Sept. 19 from 2 to 3 p.m. This family-friendly event is fun for all ages, but make sure to register because seats are filling up quickly.
3.) Sonidos de las Américas
Enjoy the sounds of the Americas with the Colorado Symphony’s 10th annual Latin Beats Concert, celebrating the sounds, traditions and influence of Latin cultures. The symphony will showcase a mix of traditional, classical and contemporary music.
The best part? This concert is completely free! Reserve your tickets now and mark your calendars for Saturday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. at Boettcher Concert Hall.
4.) La Rumba Denver
Can’t get enough of the music? Keep the party going at La Rumba Denver. Dance the night and learn bachata, salsa and more through expert-led classes. This venue is open year-round, but be sure to check out their event calendar to see what classes are being offered when!
5.) Denver Art Museum
The Denver Art Museum has many Latin American art galleries on display throughout the year that are perfect for Hispanic Heritage Month! Admission to the exhibitions is included with general admission tickets.
From paintings to textile art and photography, these galleries are a perfect place to learn more about different cultures, histories and traditions of Latin America.
