There’s a movement going on.  It’s led by scrappy publishers and editors and for-profit and non-profit organizations that want to innovate local journalism. It’s supported by communities that want to be better informed, engaged and connected.  Bucket List Community News is part of that movement.  We are committed to bringing you neighborly stories and trustworthy voices that connect metro Denver. Solution oriented journalism where all voices are heard, and people see themselves in the news.

And we are committed to Bucket List being inspired and supported by the community. There is no ad clutter, paywalls, paid subscriptions, or paid memberships. It’s free to everyone.  We receive our support through grants, three rounds of community fundraising a year, business sponsors like Jacobs Co. Real Estate, Evergreen Design Studios, Denver Public Schools and Spice Kitchen. These businesses align with the mission of community news.

But we still need help from you and the community. We’re at the end of our spring fundraising drive. We’re raised over $6500 of our $10,000 goal but there’s less than a week to go. Conventional fundraising wisdom says people wait until the end to give so let’s see if that’s the case. Let’s raise $3500 together by April 30. Remember contributions up to $5000 are matched by Kathy Neustadt and John and Mark Warren of the investment firm William Blair.

1.)

Here’s a Bucket Listicle with other information to let you know what’s new these days.

Our Bucket List Community team won 4 awards Including a first place (congratulations PJ Guidry) in the regional Society for Professional Journalists competition. We had a crowd to cheer them on. Congratulations Daniel, Cassis, PJ and Maxx on standing out among journalists in four states.

2.)

Daniel Granados of MSU crunched some numbers for us at the request of the Center for Community News. Here is some data on how aspiring journalists drive the train.

In 2025, Bucket List Community News published 248 articles, with 199 (80%) written by students. Of the 199 total student articles, 146 were written by enrolled students and 53 by graduates. In addition to the articles, the Engagement team expanded content production through different platforms, producing 6 podcast episodes, 9 monthly radio show episodes on KGNU, 113 newsletters, and video content for social media, storytelling and brand awareness.

3.)

More of your neighbors are subscribing to free neighborly news. From 2024 to 2025 our website views went up 43% and our visitors went up by 44%. Welcome to all the new neighbors who are just discovering Bucket List Community News. Because of you our one time and recurring monthly contributions are up too. We are so grateful.

4.)

We’re getting great feedback on our monthly radio show on KGNU. According to KGNU it goes out to 50,000 listeners. It’s hosted by our editor, Toni Tresca, who just was named one of Editor and Publishers Tomorrow’s News Trailblazers.

5.)

We had a great event for Local News Day at the Denver Press Club. Independent community news publications came together for an evening of food, fellowship and fundraising. On 5/21 at the Elitch Theatre we’ll come together again at the Denver Community Film Festival for the showing of “Truth Be Told.

Let’s go, Bucket Listers. Please contribute today with a one-time contribution or a monthly recurring contribution to support Bucket List Community News and trustworthy local journalism. This is bigger than supporting one newsroom. We need everyone to step up to support local news that informs, engages and connects us. Join the movement today.

Do you have a listicle in mind? Any ideas can be sent to ryland.c.scholes@gmail.com. And don’t forget to check out our events calendar on our website to see what else is happening in our area.

See you next Tuesday with another Bucket Listicle.
