Today is the kickoff of Bucket List Community News’s #newsCOneeds fundraising campaign. Between December 3 and December 31, we are raising money to fund our community journalism. This year we are being ambitious: Our goal is to raise $12,500 and unlock $10,000 in matching grants from Colorado Media Project, Kathy Neustadt, Tom Walsh and Jerry Bell.
As we come to this time of year, I ask what is your reason for giving? I’ll tell you mine.
My dad had a heart of gold. As a child growing up in Hawaii, I remember he saw a story in the Honolulu Star Bulletin that touched him, and he turned it into a life lesson. It was during the holidays and he read about a young girl in the hospital with leukemia. He bought a stuffed animal and took us to visit her. He was grateful that his kids were healthy, so he wanted to cheer her up. His generosity taught me to be more compassionate, and I carry his example to this day and try to pass it along to my children, so his memory inspires them too.
As you support causes this holiday season, consider investing in stories that inspire our community to reach out a hand to one another. Community journalism keeps you informed about issues that matter, lets you know about people in our area coming up with solutions to problems we face, tells you about events and activities, and lets you know what is on the mind of your neighbors. We tell stories others don’t.
Bucket List Community News is proud to serve you with free, hyperlocal neighborly news while mentoring the next generation of journalists through internships and apprenticeships. We do this without paywalls, exclusive memberships, paid subscriptions and advertising clutter.

Even though our community journalism is free, it is not free to produce, and we are working very hard to keep it up. So please invest in us.
