Not long ago I was speaking to Greg Pratt, the director of Bienvenidos Food Bank.  He told me how difficult this last year has been with no playbook on how to handle a migrant crisis. What do you do when people are lined around the block with suitcases and children in tow needing food and essentials? How do you step up when hundreds are camping out in the cold in your neighborhood with no resources and nowhere to go? Our Daianee Galindo talked to Greg for our featured story this week and together we came up with a solution.

Starting today and for the remainder of our Christmas in July fundraising campaign Bucket List Community News is doing a 90/10 split with Bienvenidos Food Bank. For every $1000 you all give, $100 will go to Bienvenidos to show gratitude for their service to the community. If you give $2000, (which would put us well over our $6000 fundraising goal) Bienvenidos gets $200 and so on. We are partnering to support community journalism and help fight food insecurity and we’re asking you to join us in this effort.

We’re in the last 10 days of our Christmas in July fundraising campaign and because of you we believe we can reach higher than we imagined and have even greater impact. We have met our $5000 goal. Will you help us get to $6000 or even more? We can accomplish this together and be partners in creating solutions for our community.

Bucket List Community News is solutions journalism. It results in more impactful stories, increased engagement and better community journalism. It stems from conversations and listening.  It also drives our work mentoring the next generation of journalists. We are a solution that is turning our college journalists into community journalists. It’s not just a focus on problems. It is a focus on solutions.

It’s easy to contribute.  Just visit our website or click on the link here. When our fundraiser ends on July 31, we will write a check for 10% to Bienvenidos Food Bank and we’ll tell you how much you gave. Even a small amount goes a long way to supporting them and community journalism. Thank you, Bucket Listers, for being partners in the solution and helping us have more impact in the community.

Warmest Regards,
Vicky Collins
